They were lovely. Quiet, methodical, thoughtful, attended to all the corners and obstacles. They fit a huge mattress up through a challengingly small attic stairs opening. When it appeared the only way to get it up would be to folded, they checked with me, pointing out that there might be springs in the mattress and it might create a permanent fold. Given how far we could come I said to go for it, they managed it, and it left no trace of the folding. I would say essentially a perfect pick up and delivery. A mattress is one of the few things most people own that fights back. One person can usually manage a twin. A full, a queen or a king bends in the middle, blocks your view of your own feet, and takes two people to move safely. Lugg is an on-demand moving and delivery service that moves mattresses, box springs, bed frames and headboards in Santa Ana, between homes, apartments and storage units. If you're looking for a mattress moving company for one piece rather than a whole house, that's the job Lugg is built for, and you can book it for the same day or schedule it ahead.
Moving mattresses is mostly preparation. Strip the bed first, because sheets and a duvet sliding around underfoot are what turn a two-minute carry into a fumble on a landing. Measure the narrowest turn on the route rather than the doorway itself, since box springs don't fold and a tight corner stops them where a narrow doorway often won't. Carry the mattress on its side rather than flat, which is how it gets around a corner at all. A king is 16 inches wider than a queen, and that's usually what decides whether it makes the turn at the top of a stairwell.
How to move a bed frame is the same job in reverse: take it apart instead of walking it through a doorway whole, put every bolt and bracket in one bag, and tape that bag to the rail it came off, so the bed goes back together without a hardware hunt at the other end.
This is the one that catches people out, and it's worth settling before you book. A cargo van measures about 4 feet across and 4.5 feet tall inside, which is enough for a twin, a full or a queen.

King and California king mattresses don't fit in a cargo van. Book an XL, which is 5.5 feet across and 6.4 feet tall, or a box truck. A pickup also works, because the bed is open rather than because it's bigger, so take the XL or the box truck if the weather's doing anything at all. The truck and crew size you pick is your call at booking, and when you're between two sizes, take the larger one.
Lugg movers arrive with stretch wrap, furniture blankets, dollies, lifting straps, tie-down straps and basic tools, and pickups also carry a tarp.
Lugg doesn't supply mattress bags, so if you want the mattress in a bag, have one ready. If you don't have one, the crew can wrap your mattress in stretch wrap instead. This matters most on a load-only job, where Lugg loads a storage unit, a container or a rental truck and doesn't unload it at the other end, because that's when the mattress stays wrapped without a crew there to unwrap it.
If the mattress is going into storage, load it last so it comes out first, and stand it on its long edge against a wall rather than laying it flat under boxes.
