Tim and Nelson arrived promptly at the scheduled time and were able to move my belongings from my second floor apartment to the moving truck outside very efficiently. They moved a mattress, several pieces of furniture and ~6 boxes in only 15 minutes. Would highly recommend! - Kaye
Renard and John arrived on time and had a nice van with moving blankets. They were efficient and friendly covered the mattress before moving it ( which I didn't even think of but it was a rainy day.). What a great experience! - Tanya
Incredibly kind and great problem solvers! Really appreciative of these two friendly gentlemen who moved a gigantic mattress through a very narrow hallway. AMAZING service! - Lily

They lifted a very heavy mattress and took positively every precaution, they will not break your house! Expert team! Very professional. - Jesse
Kevin and Khalil were absolutely amazing! They went above and beyond our expectations with our move. They managed to get our furniture through a small doorway, into our tight apartment, and up a narrow staircase with no problems at all. They were extremely polite, professional, and careful with everything. They even helped my husband move an extra chair into our home without hesitation. I can’t recommend them highly enough — they made what could have been a stressful move quick and easy. Thank you, Kevin and Khalil! - Caryn
Abraham and Saxon had to maneuver a very large sofa up a narrow staircase and approached the challenging situation with a great sense of humor and willingness to problem solve in the moment. We’re super grateful and really enjoyed meeting and working with them! - Dresden
We had an oversized piece that had to get up a very tight staircase. They did not give up trying EVERY POSSIBLE way to do it. They stuck with it and got it up and over the stair rail and into our master bedroom! They really cared that I got my funiture in and didn't give up trying! Great attitude and very very good at their job. Thank you Oscar & Rafael! - Denise
These guys did an amazing job. Were able to pack everything I needed and safely transport it to the new house. Were very kind to place all of the furniture I needed in its correct spot, including bringing things up a narrow staircase. Truly 10/10 job - Adi
Best customer service ever. they were both professional, patient, and solved problems on the fly. The oversized couch needed to be dropped off on the 3rd floor, and the elevator did not work. Without question, they got to work and managed to figure out a way to fit the couch there a small staircase and carried it all the up to my place one step at a time. I cannot express how grateful they made it happen. It was a difficult challenge and they exceeded beyond my expectation. I strongly recommend them for your next move. Thank you! - Daniel
Awesome. They moved my heavy piece of furniture easily up my staircase with 2 landings. They wore masks and cleaned their hands before moving my item. Thank you! - Anne
Shawn and Jonathan were awesome. We bought a recliner to put in my mother’s room at the retirement village and it wouldn’t fit in the back of my SUV. We needed to coordinate around the meal schedule for the residents and not impede the movement of wheelchairs in and out of the elevator and hallways. Shawn and Jonathan jumped right to it. Got the box in their truck at Costco, followed us to the facility, wheeled it in and up to her room, got it in place and disposed of the box all while warmly greeting residents and staff at the facility including my bedridden Mom. Thank you for making this not only a painless process but pleasant as well. - Michelle
Mark & Keith were great. They moved a large sofa down a narrow hallway, down a set of stairs at my condo and into the garage. It was a tight space, but they did a great job. They also moved a couple of pieces of furniture out of the way and then put them back in place. - Lisa

A mattress is one of the few things most people own that fights back. One person can usually manage a twin. A full, a queen or a king bends in the middle, blocks your view of your own feet, and takes two people to move safely. Lugg is an on-demand moving and delivery service that moves mattresses, box springs, bed frames and headboards in San Diego, between homes, apartments and storage units. If you're looking for a mattress moving company for one piece rather than a whole house, that's the job Lugg is built for, and you can book it for the same day or schedule it ahead.
Moving mattresses is mostly preparation. Strip the bed first, because sheets and a duvet sliding around underfoot are what turn a two-minute carry into a fumble on a landing. Measure the narrowest turn on the route rather than the doorway itself, since box springs don't fold and a tight corner stops them where a narrow doorway often won't. Carry the mattress on its side rather than flat, which is how it gets around a corner at all. A king is 16 inches wider than a queen, and that's usually what decides whether it makes the turn at the top of a stairwell.
How to move a bed frame is the same job in reverse: take it apart instead of walking it through a doorway whole, put every bolt and bracket in one bag, and tape that bag to the rail it came off, so the bed goes back together without a hardware hunt at the other end.
This is the one that catches people out, and it's worth settling before you book. A cargo van measures about 4 feet across and 4.5 feet tall inside, which is enough for a twin, a full or a queen.
| Mattress | What it fits in |
|---|---|
| Twin, twin XL, full | Pickup, van, XL or box truck |
| Queen | Pickup, van, XL or box truck |
| King, California king | Pickup, XL or box truck. Not a cargo van |
| Bed frame and headboard alongside the mattress | Size up one from the mattress alone |
King and California king mattresses don't fit in a cargo van. Book an XL, which is 5.5 feet across and 6.4 feet tall, or a box truck. A pickup also works, because the bed is open rather than because it's bigger, so take the XL or the box truck if the weather's doing anything at all. The truck and crew size you pick is your call at booking, and when you're between two sizes, take the larger one.
Lugg movers arrive with stretch wrap, furniture blankets, dollies, lifting straps, tie-down straps and basic tools, and pickups also carry a tarp.
Lugg doesn't supply mattress bags, so if you want the mattress in a bag, have one ready. If you don't have one, the crew can wrap your mattress in stretch wrap instead. This matters most on a load-only job, where Lugg loads a storage unit, a container or a rental truck and doesn't unload it at the other end, because that's when the mattress stays wrapped without a crew there to unwrap it.
If the mattress is going into storage, load it last so it comes out first, and stand it on its long edge against a wall rather than laying it flat under boxes.
The truck and crew size you pick sets the base fare and factors in the distance between your addresses, then labor runs by the minute once the crew arrives at each location, with no hourly minimums. Lugg movers carry beds up stairs, into elevators and down long hallways. Enter both addresses and you'll see the estimate before anything is confirmed.
Up to five stops fit on one booking, so a bed moving out to a storage unit and a frame going somewhere else is a single job, and mattress transport from one room to another in the same home is a booking like any other.
