They were very efficient but also very careful with the elliptical. Made absolutely no scuffs on the walls or stair railings despite a quite difficult ( nearly impossible) turn on the basement stairway. It looked like there was no way the bulky machine would make it down the stairs, but they patiently, methodically made it happen! Getting rid of a mattress comes down to finding somewhere that will accept it and how you're getting it there. You name the destination and a mattress removal service does the carrying and the driving. Lugg movers are on the way within an hour, or you pick a one-hour window that suits you. They take the mattress out of the bedroom, load it, and drive it to the drop-off, so you don't have to fold a queen down a stairwell or strap one to a car roof. One booking can make up to five stops, so the mattress and the bed frame can go to two different places on the same run. Most things you put out for bulk collection get taken eventually. A mattress often doesn't. Plenty of cities refuse them at the curb outright, or want them sealed in a disposal bag first, because one left out in the rain stops being recyclable. Check what your own city collects first, because that answer decides which job this is.
If your town does run a mattress pickup and you can wait for the date, the curb is the cheapest ending available to you and the only hard part left is the stairs. Lugg movers will carry it down and leave it at the curb: enter your address as both the pickup and the destination. If your town doesn't collect mattresses, or the date is weeks out and the new bed arrives Thursday, mattress disposal means driving it somewhere yourself or booking a mattress haul away.
Where to dispose of a mattress in Denver depends on your city and sometimes your state, and the rules change from one town to the next. Call the site before you put its address on the booking, and ask what time they close as well as what they charge, because plenty of dumps shut in the early afternoon.
Some sites serve only residents of their own municipality, and some need the resident there in person with ID. Your Luggers can't satisfy that second one alone, so if a site asks for it, follow them over in your own car or pick somewhere else. Facilities set their own rules and can still decline a mattress when it arrives.
A mattress is mostly recyclable once it's taken apart, and centers that accept them separate the steel springs, the foam and the timber frame. Mattress recycling is charged per piece rather than by weight, and a box spring counts as its own piece. Most people try donating instead and that rarely works: charities generally won't take a used mattress on hygiene grounds no matter how clean it looks.
Mattress removal is rarely just the mattress. The box spring goes at the same time and it's the more awkward of the two, because it doesn't bend at all. Box spring disposal follows the same rules: same facility, its own fee, counted as a second piece. A bed frame comes apart, a headboard doesn't, and a full bedroom set clears in one booking rather than four.
A mattress is awkward long before it's heavy, so size is the limit you hit first: a king is 76 inches wide and needs a pickup, XL or box truck, while a twin or a full fits a cargo van. Pick the vehicle for everything that's leaving, and add the second stop when the frame is going somewhere different.
Mattress disposal is priced per job rather than as a flat fee, and you'll see your estimate before you book. It's based on the vehicle you choose plus the labor time the movers spend, priced by the minute. There's no hourly minimum, so one mattress down one flight doesn't get rounded up to a half-day block. You can cancel any time before the movers arrive at no charge.
The facility in Denver charges its own fee on top, which your Luggers pay there and which reaches your card separately. Most sites will quote it on the phone when you call about their hours, so it doesn't have to be a surprise.
