A refrigerator is the one appliance nobody wants to move themselves: it's tall, top-heavy, and it usually went in before the counters, the cabinets or the new flooring did. With Lugg, you pick the truck that fits your fridge, enter your addresses, and see your upfront estimate before you book anything. Lugg is an on-demand moving and delivery service that moves refrigerators, freezers and mini fridges, whether one is going to a new home, out to the garage, or home from the store or a Facebook Marketplace seller.
Most refrigerators should travel standing upright, so book a Pickup, XL or Box. A Van isn't recommended for a full-size fridge: its cargo area is 4.5 ft tall, too short to stand one up.
How much does it cost to move a refrigerator?
The cost to move a refrigerator with Lugg is an upfront estimate you see before you book, built from the distance between your addresses plus the time the job takes on site. There are no hourly minimums, so one fridge going across town is never priced like a whole-home move.
Fridge movers carry it up stairs, into elevators and down long hallways. If the old fridge needs to go somewhere too, that's a second stop on the same booking, not a second booking.
How to move a refrigerator: getting it ready before the movers arrive
Moving a refrigerator goes faster when it's ready. Empty it the day before, take out the loose shelves and drawers, and defrost the freezer so it isn't dripping in the truck. If it has an ice maker or a water dispenser, shut off the water and disconnect the line, since Lugg movers don't touch plumbing.
Then check your manual for two things: whether it can travel on its side, and how long it should stand upright before you plug it back in.
Refrigerator delivery from the store or a seller, with the old fridge moved too
If you've bought a fridge and the store's delivery date is a week away, you can book a Lugg to collect it from the store or a private seller today, so fridge delivery doesn't have to wait on the store's schedule.
One Lugg holds up to 5 stops, so Lugg movers can carry the new fridge into the kitchen and move the old one to the garage, the basement or a second home on the same booking.
Mini fridges, chest freezers and the extra fridge in the garage
Not every fridge move starts in a kitchen. Lugg movers carry mini fridges to dorms, chest freezers up from basements and spare fridges out to the garage, and the smaller ones often fit in a pickup truck.
Full-size models are another matter. Lugg's weight limit is 125 lbs per Lugger, or 250 lbs per item on any vehicle that comes with two Luggers: Pickup, Van, XL, Box or Box+. Anything heavier needs more Luggers on the job, so book a second Lugg for the same time window.
