Lugg loads a Manhattan Mini Storage unit, empties one, or moves what's inside from one location to another, with movers and a truck on the way within the hour and no hourly minimum to hit. Lugg is an on-demand moving and delivery service that moves things in and out of storage units, and it has completed more than 1,400 Manhattan Mini Storage moves in the past year, for a unit you already rent.
Moving and storage are two separate services here: Manhattan Mini Storage rents you the room, and Lugg moves what goes into it. Lugg has no warehouse and no units of its own, so you choose the location and the unit size, and every Lugg runs to or from a room you already hold. Pickup-and-store services that keep your things in their own warehouse are a different kind of company.
Which end is the storage unit is the only thing that changes. On the way in, the pickup is your apartment and the drop-off is the unit; on the way out it's reversed. Manhattan Mini Storage has buildings all over the city, and a move between two of them, or between two units in the same building, is still one Lugg rather than two bookings. Chelsea, SoHo, Hudson Square and the Seaport are where Lugg runs to most often.
Storage moves are priced as they go: a base fare for the truck you choose, plus a per-minute rate for the labor, both shown as an upfront estimate before you book. There's no hourly minimum, so a 40-minute run to your unit is billed as 40 minutes rather than the two-to-four-hour minimum a traditional mover starts at.
Most Manhattan Mini Storage runs are small, and a Lite, a Pickup or a Van covers the large majority of them. Because the labor is per the minute, the length of the carry is the part you can control: a unit packed with the things you need toward the door loads faster, and having your gate code and unit number ready keeps the movers moving.
One Lugg can make up to five stops, so a storage unit cleanout can drop the keepers at home, the donations at a charity and the rest at a disposal site in a single trip. Downsizing into a smaller apartment, storing furniture between leases, consolidating two units into one, and decluttering after a move all book the same way.
